2008 Topps Heritage Baseball HIGH NUMBER Update Set

Yes, you read correctly. Topps will be releasing a follow-up set to the 2008 Topps Heritage baseball brand. The 2008 Topps Heritage High Number Series set has caused some frustration among some collectors, because they thought they had already completed their 2008 Heritage sets and now find out they need to add more cards. Will the High Number set be needed to have a "Master Set" completed? In my opinion, yes. However, it's up to the individual collectors as to what they want to do. Back in the 1950's, it was common for Topps to put out a new run of packs containing high numbered cards, and of course, the Topps Heritage brand is based on vintage card designs. The 2008 Topps Heritage set is based on the original 1959 set.

One concern some collecting enthusiasts have is whether this will affect the release date of the 2009 Heritage set. New Heritage baseball sets are usually released in the last week of February or the first week of March. That is not long after the 2008 High Number release date.

The 2008 Topps Heritage High Number set will contain 220 cards numbered from 501-720, picking up where the original 2008 Topps Heritage set numbers ended. These additional 220 cards are all supposed to feature players who were not included in the early numbered set. Among the 220 update cards will also be 45 rookie cards and 35 new SP (short print) cards (see list below). According to Topps, each pack of 2008 Heritage High Number cards will also include two "Highlights" cards, and of course each pack will have a stick of gum! There will also be some great autographs and insert cards to chase after.
